What does a standard A5 flyer cost?
A single-sided A5 flyer on 115gsm gloss — the most common flyer spec in the country — costs
roughly:
• 250 flyers: R500 (about R2.00 each)
• 500 flyers: R700 (about R1.40 each)
• 1,000 flyers: R1,150 (about R1.15 each)
• 5,000 flyers: R1,750 (about R0.35 each)
Notice what happens to the unit price. Twenty times the quantity does not cost twenty times the money. Going from 1000 flyers to 5000 flyers only costs about R600 more. If you are planning a campaign that runs longer than a month, printing one bigger batch almost always beats reprinting small batches.
What makes a flyer more expensive?
Four things, in order of impact:
Size. An A4 flyer uses twice the paper of an A5, so expect to pay roughly double the price of an A5 flyer.
Double-sided printing. Printing the back adds around 40% for smaller quantity jobs and about R300 if printing larger quantities upwards of 5000 flyers.
Paper weight. 115gsm gloss is the standard. Moving up to 170gsm makes the flyer feel noticeably
more substantial and adds a modest amount to the price.
Lamination and finishes. Matt or gloss lamination adds cost and is usually overkill for a handout
flyer. Save it for menus and anything that needs to survive repeated handling.
Is it cheaper to print flyers online or at a local print shop?
Online printing is almost always cheaper for standard specs, because online printers batch many jobs
onto the same press run. A walk-in copy shop printing 500 flyers digitally cannot match the unit price
of a lithographic run. Where a local shop wins is same-day urgency and jobs too small to be worth
couriering.

How long does flyer printing take in South Africa?
